North Korean Documentary

Today in Human Geo. we started to watch a documentary on North Korea and an inside look inside. I have seen this film in 6th grade Social studies. I really liked this film in 6th grade because it was very interesting, but at the time a little bit scary because I did not understand what was going on in some parts. I am interested to re-watch this video and learn more and refresh my mind on the information. In the film a doctor is going into North Korea to perform eye surgery on people living in the poverty of North Korea. An american journalist asked the doctor if she and her camera crew could go into North Korea with him to be the first journalist from America to get an inside look on Korea and the ways of their lifestyles. One thing that the journalist finds is when her camera man lies down on the ground to get a better shot of the statue of the leader he was threatened to be kicked out of the country for lying down in front of the leader, this is taken as disrespectful. I hope that tomorrow we will be able to watch more of the video in class.

Korea- North and South 1/05/15

What do you already know about North Korea?

-Powerful country
-Dislike South Korea
-Isolated snd secluded from the world
-Oppressive government (government controls every part of their lives)
-Currently headed by Kim Jong-Un
-Kim Jong- Un didn't seem to like The Interview

Oppressive Government:

-State-run (nation run) socialist government that many consider to be a Stalinist dictatorship
-Official Name: Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)
-notice that they say "Korea," not North Korea- they claim to be the legitimate ruler of the entire peninsula. North Korea assumes to run the whole peninsula

Secluded and Isolated:

-Isolated by the government
-Also somewhat isolated geographically
-After all, they are on a peninsula
-Pyongyang is the capital

  • Located at 39 degrees North (latitude)
